Manchester City are now the best placed club to sign Alexis Sanchez after Bayern Munich and PSG dropped out of the race. Bayern Munich have kept an eye on the Chilean for the better part of the summer and despite having another Chilean, Vidal, to do the convincing on their behalf, the club’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated that the club are not in the race anymore. The club will not be doing a deal for another attacker, he said. The Bundesliga champions have already signed Corentin Tolisso from Lyon and James Rodriguez is on board on loan from Real Madrid.

Over the weekend, Sanchez declared his interest to play in the Champions League next season, something City will offer him and Arsenal won’t after their 5th place finish in the Premier League last season. City have the resources and are not afraid to spend. They boast of having signed three of the four most expensive defenders in football history with the most recent £50m purchase of right-back Kyle Walker from Tottenham.

On top of having the cash to splash around, City are capable of matching Sanchez’ wage demands which Bayern and PSG have both deemed ridiculous. The tax rates in France are also believed to be a turn off for the 28 year old. With Sanchez required to report back to Arsenal’s training camp on 30th July, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will give in to City’s demands. Will Sanchez do a van Persie? Time will tell.
